Norway: Lobby group aims to get government moving on Stad Ship Tunnel

    For the proponents of the Stad Ship tunnel, a tunnel for the ships in Northern Norway, it was a big set back when the government presented a revised budget on May 11, placing the tunnel project was put on hold.

    Due to the increase in cost estimates, the government has asked the Norwegian Coastal Administration to investigate the feasibility of the tunnel.

    For the proponents of the tunnel, this is seen as a prelude to cancellation of the tunnel plans. Hence, the lobby groups formed to push the government not to give up the plans.

    According to an article on Bergens Tidende, some say "there are key forces working against the project" and that they express their concern that that the government is now trying to stop the project.
