The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has tendered for 10.7 million euros (VAT included), through Adif AV, a new contract for the construction of the Pancorbo-Ameyugo section (8.4km) the first of the new Burgos-Vitoria High Speed Line (LAV), whose platform construction work is currently under tender for another 439 million euros (VAT included).
Specifically, and given the technical complexity of the section, this contract is for technical assistance and includes the actions to support the construction management during the construction of the platform of the section. Also its supervision, in order to ensure its proper execution in all aspects, from the technician to the environmental, to the economic or the quality one.
In this way, these works are tendered while progress is being made to award the contract for the construction of this first section of LAV, which constitutes a new technical and engineering challenge.
Plot Pancorbo-Ameyugo
The new Pancorbo-Ameyugo section, located in the middle of the route between Burgos and Vitoria, represents a technical and engineering challenge since 77% of its 8.4 km of platform run in a succession of three tunnels and three viaducts, with which the new line will be integrated in a respectful way in the environment and will adapt to the rest of the endowments with which it crosses, such as the N-1 road, which it draws up to twice.
Among the most outstanding structures are the Pancorbo tunnel (4 km), which runs into the surroundings through the Montes Obarenes Natural Park; and the 1.1 km viaduct that, just below the tunnel, flies over the N-1 road, the SC-BU-7 road and the Arroyo de la Llosa.
The Ministry of Transport, through Adif, continues to work to have tenders for the rest of the sections on which the construction of the LAV platform has been structured in 2026.
Connection of the Basque Country to the High Speed
The LAV Burgos-Vitoria involves the deployment of a new standard-wide double track line and a single-track baips in Miranda de Ebro, which will allow both the train stop in this town and the circulation outside the municipality.
The new line will connect the Basque Country to the high-speed network, the largest in Europe (with 4,000 km), and improve its communication and travel times with the center and the rest of the country, strengthening cohesion and territorial vertebration.
In addition, it is a remarkable advance in the development of the Atlantic Corridor: it gives continuity to the LAV Madrid-Valladolid-Burgos not only to the Basque Country, where it will link with the high-speed network that is currently built between the three Basque capitals, but also to the French border.
This action contributes to SDGs number 9 (promoting sustainable, efficient and quality infrastructure), 7 (sustainability) and 8 (contribution to economic growth and employment generation).
European funding
These actions may be co-financed by the European Union Connect Europe Facility (ECF)
