SLURRY TUNNEL BORING MACHINE OPERATOR

About Costain and your project.

We are looking for a Slurry tunnel boring machine Operator to operate TBM in accordance with the TBM driving instruction criteria defined in the excavation permit.

Costain helps to improve people’s lives by deploying technology-based engineering solutions to meet urgent national needs across the UK’s energy, water and transportation infrastructures.
 
Thames Tideway Tunnel, Main Works East is a £650m project recently secured by a Costain joint venture (“CVB”), to provide a new 7.2m diameter tunnel to divert waste from the Victorian built sewer from discharging into the Thames. The tunnel runs from Chambers Wharf to Abbey Mills where it connects with the Lee Tunnel. The works include: the main tunnel drive, a connection tunnel from Greenwich Pumping Station, shaft constructions, a connection to the newly constructed Lee Tunnel project, and minor works at Beckton Sewage Treatment, all as part of an overall project to reduce sewer discharge overflows into the River Thames. The works are scheduled to commence on site in March 2016 and complete in March 2022.

 
What will I be doing?

    Operate TBM in accordance with the TBM driving instruction criteria defined in the excavation permit.
    Operate the TBM within the manufacturer’s recommendations and limitations.
    Manage and coordinate tunnel activities in line with the programme
    Review daily, outputs achieved and report to the Works Manager
    Ensure a quality product is delivered
    Be fully conversant with specialists’ contract conditions and attendances
    Lead operation during emergency scenario within tunnel work.
    Review programme daily and assist the Works Manager in identifying opportunities
    Record resources and monitor outputs against programme.
    Ensure work is carried out in a safe manner and to the specified quality requirements.
    Must be able to work within the tunnelling team.
    SMSTS / SSSTS accreditation
    Large scale civil engineering experience.
    Man, management experience of multi-disciplined workers
    Ability to lead, direct and motivate others
    Relevant CSCS.
    Skill and experience on slurry TBM operating.
    Good behaviour regards following Engineer instruction and TBM parameters excavation.
    Provide support to the TBM Shift Engineer for the analysis of the TBM excavation parameter related to the operating options.
    Experience with HK TBM and CAP guidance system
    High knowledge in TBM process versus operating during TBM maintenance, ensure a good communication between mechanic, electrical and operative before any TBM component maintenance work activities.

    NVQ Level 3 Tunnelling operations & tunnelling machine operator.
    Tunnel machine Miner (occupation).
    Full UK Drivers licence
    CSCS Card

Desirable

    Cultural Behavioural Safety Training
    First Aid Training
    Tunnel entry training, City & Guilds BS 6151
    Manual Handling Training
    Emergency Rescue Team Training
    Stretcher Training
