Residents using Rennfast tunnels complain over the frequent closures of the tunnels. Stavanger Aftenblad writes that the tunnels were closed 86 times last year. This causes great inconvenience for the residents nearby as they cannot rely on keeping up with their schedules. The Mastrafjord Tunnel is 4.4 km and the Byfjord Tunnel is 5.9 km long and millions of NOK has been spent for the safety and other modernization costs in recent years for these tunnels opened in 1992. Sometimes the tunnels are closed because of cars breaking, accidents etc. Now they are working on having a tow truck closer to the tunnel to decrease the closure time.
