    Our Infrastructure business is experiencing growth due to a pipeline of high profile projects and future workforce planning requirements. Due to this growth, we are looking for an experienced Associate Tunnel Engineer to support the growth of our Tunnels team in Melbourne to provide support to the Director of Tunnels and be responsible for growing and supervising a team of engineers.

    The successful candidate will be required to outline and develop a plan to address our various project needs in conjunction with Project Managers and to manage the team of tunnel and geotechnical engineers to achieve the expected results in terms of quality, cost and schedule. They will also have a responsibility for developing new business; being the key interface with contractors; maintaining and nurturing existing client relationships; liaising with other business sector leaders and teams within the organisation and generally raising the profile of the Tunnels Engineering offering across the market.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Planning, organising, and leading projects teams in the delivery, design, and documentation of project requirements; 
    • Project management and technical tunnels/geotechnical lead on various multi-discipline project;
    • Providing support to business development and strategic initiatives, including preparation of proposals;
    • Monitor output to ensure all of the teams’ work is completed to a high technical standard, within agreed budgets and timeframes, and in compliance with Hatch’s Business Systems;
    • Developing new and maintaining existing client relationships;
    • Provide vision and leadership to team members including mentoring and development of technical staff; 

    Qualifications and experience:

    Essential

    • A university degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering with extensive industry experience as a Tunnel Engineer, recognised by clients at state level;
    • Ability to assist other staff in team environments and to actively share technical knowledge and expertise;
    • Understanding of design and analysis of tunnels and geotechnical engineering for public- and private-sector infrastructure projects
    • Flexible attitude and ability to both lead and direct a small team of technical staff;
    • Proficiency in the use of Plaxis, UDEC, 3DEC, FLAC or other geo-structural analysis software;
    • A track record of successfully delivering complex multidisciplinary projects on time and to budget with sound knowledge of Australian and international standards and codes of practice commonly applied within DTMR, VicRoads and TfNSW jurisdictions;

    Desirable

    • Professional Engineer registered with Engineers Australia (NER or chartership) or the ability to ability to obtain same; 
    • Experience and interest in business development initiatives, and in the development and maintenance of client relations;
    • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of staff and clients (both written and orally);
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills;
    • Excellent interpersonal and teamworking skills in complex and changing environments
