Diario de Sevilla reporting that finally contractors of cancelled SE-40 tunnel construction will be compensated. Compensation expected to cost 28 million euros. Previous tunnelling under the Guadalquivir river in Sevilla has been cancelled because of serious problems with water tightness of the ground that were being bored. There were water leak problems. Therefore the tunnel works have been stopped in 2012. Then project deemed faulty and completely abandoned.
For almost 10 years the problem was frozen. The Ministry of Transport (Socialist Party) José Luis Ábalos has decided to solve the problem. Now previous contractors and the ministry negotiate for compensation. Some information about the formula for compensation is to pay contractors 6% of total contract value plus the costs they spent until cancellation. This will be complete loss of tax payers money as old project deemed faulty and not sustainable. Which companies effected? For South tunnels contractors were UTE Aldesa Construcciones, Copisa Constructora Pirenaica and Bruesa Construcción and contract value was 269.357.812 euros with VAT. For North tunnels contractors were Obrascón Huarte Lain, Sando and Azvi for an amount of 203.646.497 euros with VAT
Both parties have to reach an agreement within 8 months.
