On 8 June this year, a TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) completed drilling of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline landfall tunnel in Pogorzelica on the Polish Baltic coast.

This marks completion of one of the key stages of the offshore section of Baltic Pipe. On behalf of GAZ-SYSTEM, the contractor constructed the underpass using a technique which limits the impact of the investment on the surroundings and nature. The method involved tunnelling using a TBM with a diameter of about 2.5 metres, behind which concrete rim were laid to additionally stiffen and stabilise the tunnel. The exit point of the tunnel is located about 400 m from the coastline into the sea.  The offshore gas landfall prepared in this manner will make it possible to connect of the offshore gas pipeline to the onshore valve station. Further works within gas pipeline landfall will involve preparations to pull the TBM machine out from under the seabed and rearrangement of the construction site for placing the offshore gas pipeline in the tunnel.

In parallel, intensive onshore welding and laying of gas pipelines between Niechorze and Płoty as well as between Goleniów and Lwówek are underway in Poland. At the compressor stations in Goleniów, Odolanów and Gustorzyn technical facilities and foundations for compressors are under construction. The first installation of the compressor unit was launched on 9 June this year at the compressor station in Odolanów. The implementation of the Baltic Pipe Project by GAZ-SYSTEM is progressing according to the schedule.
