Hyperloop Job: Manager- Mechanical Design Engineering - Los Angeles, USA

    THE PURPOSE:
    The Hyperstructures team is responsible for designing and developing the backbone infrastructure, portals, and mechanisms that make travel on the Hyperloop transportation system possible. VHO needs a Manager I to join our Hyperstrcutures team to assist with developing our designers, improving processes, and successfully managing resources.  
     
    THE ROLE:
    The Mechanical Design Engineering Manager I, is responsible for managing the mechanical design aspect of wayside and portal systems. This individual is also responsible for process improvement within the team as well as mentoring, training, and providing guidance to entry level, mid-level, and senior design engineers.
    • You will manage the team’s resources and priorities and provide technical leadership
    • Oversee, review and sign-off of all deliverables within a functional area and ensure defined timelines, quality standards and business objectives are met
    • Establish best practices, methods and standards and ensure processes and standards are followed within the mechanical design team
    • Introduce and support continuous improvement initiatives
    • Ensure that safety is a key consideration during development of new programs and processes
    • Maintain familiarity with the changing technical landscape and seek to implement new methods and technologies where relevant
    • Support mechanical design with concept generation and problem solving for various systems through design process
    THE CANDIDATE:
    • You must be an effective communicator both written and verbally with extensive organizational skills
    • You are a strong Lead mechanical design expert with experience working with minimal guidance
    • Must have proven leadership experience with the ability to lead a team and provide guidance to junior, mid-level, and senior level talent
    • Strong problem solver with detailed research experience
     
    MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
    • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent discipline
    • Multiple years of experience in mechanisms design with the ability to showcase your expertise
    • Extensive experience in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing practices
    • Experience managing employees and project resources
    • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques and methodologies
    • Proficient in 3D model generation, component, and assembly print generation
    • Experience within an aerospace, railway, automotive, or defense organization

     

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
    • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent discipline
    • Experience using Siemens Unigraphics NX 8 or higher
    • Experience using PLM / PDM software such as Teamcenter
