Metrolinx invites three teams of companies to come up with proposals for the design, construction of three stations, as well as laying tracks and installing systems for Toronto's Scarborough Subway Extension.
Pay attention that this contract is not for the construction of the 7,8km long tunnel. The tunnel construction itself has already been awarded to Austrian company Strabag in May 2021 (please read my post: STRABAG awarded €500m Scarborough Subway extension work in Toronto). Metrolinx had explicitly divided the work to two separate contracts, one for tunneling and another one for underground station construction, laying the rails and equipping the extension with systems.
Strabag has been shipping the tunnel boring machine from Germany's Herrenknecht to do the boring.
Below is part of what Metrolinx released:
Scarborough Subway Extension update – Three teams shortlisted for contract to build stations
Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario have reached another important milestone for the Scarborough Subway Extension – three teams have been shortlisted to submit their proposals for how they will design and build the stations, lay down the tracks, and install the technology that will connect the extension to the Line 2 subway. Keep reading to find out more about the three teams.
One of Toronto’s new subway projects is taking another step forward.
Today, (Feb. 9) Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to the three teams shortlisted to bid on the 7.8-kilometre Scarborough Subway Extension.
These teams responded to the project’s Request for Qualifications (RFQ) last fall to express their interest in building the three new stations and all the other work that will be required to get the subway extension up and running.
These are the three teams shortlisted by Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario:
Dragados
KSX Integrated Design-Builders
Scarborough Transit Connect
These groups will have until the summer to submit their plans to Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario for evaluation.
“We are delighted to invite these experienced teams to prepare their proposals to design and build the stations and deliver all the other remaining work for this important project,” said Jenny Matharu, Metrolinx program sponsor for the Scarborough Subway Extension.
“This milestone brings us another step closer to delivering modern, reliable transit for customers in Scarborough and across the region.”
