Tunnelling job: TBM / MTBM PLC Technician

    The Ghella Abergeldie Joint Venture is searching for a PLC Technician to join the TBM team on the Central Interceptor Project in Auckland, New Zealand.

    This is job information:

    As a PLC Electronic Technician, you will assist and maintain all PLC controls and communication systems for the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and Tunnel works on the Central Interceptor Project.

    What you will be doing:

    • Assist and maintain all PLC control and communication systems for the site, including TBM, batching plant, wastewater treatment plant, ventilation and evacuation system - Assist with the troubleshooting, fault finding and repair of PLC related electrical issues to minimise production downtime
    • Continuously updating and improving systems
    • Ensure information/reports are completed daily and passed onto the supervisor for shift handovers
    • Work collaboratively with TBM Electricians, Engineers, Mechanics and the wider construction team
    • Keep a register of activities performed

    The successful candidate will have:

    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a PLC Technician or similar position
    • Experience with TBMs and tunnel works ideal, but construction site experience is essential Knowledge of PLC Programming and faults finding Knowledge of setup, maintenance and fault finding on communication systems Good approach to teamwork, communication and decision-making skills
    • Excellent time management and organisational skills
    • Good analytical and problem-solving ability
    • Construct Safe Level 1 is ideal but not essential - we will provide this training!

    The Central Interceptor is the largest wastewater tunnel in New Zealand. It is 13km long, 4.5m in width and height and it will be constructed between Western Springs and the Mangere Wastewater Treatment Plant – by us!
