Role Objective;

Working within the tunnels section of the Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) Construction Team contribute to planning and preparation of documents in support of the DCO process and Construction Delivery. This will include:

 

  • Assisting with the compilation and production of electrical documents relating to the Tunnel Boring Machine specification and associated documentation.
  • Drafting a specification and LTC standards profile for the temporary electrical systems to be designed for the LTC works, specifically the tunnelling operations.
  • Assisting with the assessment and adjudication of tenderers technical submissions with regards to ensuring the correct selection of types and methods being considered for the LTC works, including the proposed high and low voltage electrical systems and the selection of electrical plant and equipment.

 

Responsibilities;

  • To assist with the production of TBM specification.
  • To ensure that all proposed tunnelling machinery and equipment accord with the latest standards and regulations.
  • To assist with the technical assessment of TBM types being proposed and also the equipment.
  • To advise LTC Construction on the potential risks / advantages / disadvantages that relate to each submission.
  • To consider the environmental aspects relating to each proposed machine
  • To assist with the assessment of testing and commissioning proposals of the machines including support provided by manufacturers on site.
  • To assist with delivery and logistical matters relating to each submission, regarding tunnelling machinery and equipment.
  • To assist and contribute to delivering safe, efficient, buildable, planning documents for the support of the DCO applications. 
  • To assist and advise on the production of methodology planning and method statements
  • To consider and ensure all planning and methods accord with the relevant design regulations and meet all standards.
  • To hold health, safety and welfare (HSW) as a key project value and to support and participate in the creation, development and implementation of HSW strategies by the project leadership team

Qualifications

 Essential;

  • Experience in the designs and manufacturing, assembling, testing and commissioning of all types of TBMs
  • Degree qualified in mechanical and/or civil engineering or mining or similar such disciplines. 
  • Proven track record of TBM selections and successful operation on major projects with all types of machine i.e. slurry, EPB and possibly variable density. 
  • Demonstrable experience of working with large diameter TBM’s 
  • Experience with or in pressurised workings relevant to the tunnelling environment.
  • A good working knowledge of the tunnelling standards such as BS6164 and the Working in Compressed Air Regulations.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a major infrastructure projects.

Skills;

  • A good working knowledge of the relevant mechanical and tunnelling design and manufacturing standards.
  • A good working knowledge of the relevant compressed air and pressurised working and hyperbaric standards.
  • A good working knowledge of all standards relating to pressurised hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • A good working knowledge of all standards relating to cooling systems for underground working.
  • A working knowledge of ventilation systems for underground working.
  • A good working knowledge of the requirements of BS6164 and all associated regulations and standards.
  • Ability to work closely with client, suppliers and contractors together with LTC colleagues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and personal resilience to working under stress/different styles of leadership/being very proactive in getting things done
  • The keen ability to work within a team, providing support to one another
