    Senior Tunnel Specialist
    An Oakland, CA-based professional consulting firm is seeking a talented mid-level railway Senior Tunnel Specialist for a part-time position where work will be done remotely and in Sacramento, CA. As part of one of the country’s premier teams of rail transit system experts, the ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about the California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) project and also possess previous experience in supporting major transportation projects.

    The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following tasks:
    • Assist in the review of technical documentation for completeness, quality and fitness for purpose
    against the requirements of the relevant CHSRA Design Planning Manual/Technical Memorandum
    • Analyze reports/design drawings/assumptions of tunnel structures within the CHSR network
    • Create assumptions in case engineering data is missing
    • Recalculate tunnel structures from CHSRA to verify calculated quantity figures
    • Propose technical optimizations for tunnel structures within the given conditions
    • Verify and validate the baseline against the configuration management plan and project fundamentals
    • Share knowledge across the project’s Joint Working Group
    • Other duties as assigned
    Qualifications and Skills
    • Fluency in oral and written English is required
    • Excellent organization and planning skills
    • Strong presentation, verbal and written communication skills
    • Extensive experience consulting with executives and managers
    • Strong teamwork and the ability to thrive while working in a highly demanding environment with
    competing priorities
    Education and Training
    • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil, Geotechnical, or Structural Engineering, or related field
    • At least six years of qualifying professional experience as a Tunnel Engineer
    • Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association Standard for Road Tunnels, Bridges, and Other
    Limited Access Highways (NFPA 502)
    • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Project is preferred
