The Project

The CPB Contractors, Ghella & UGL joint venture has been successful in securing the contract to deliver the $2.6bn M6 Stage 1 project.  The project will deliver the missing link from Sydney’s south to the wider Sydney motorway network making journeys easier, faster and safer. It will remove more than 2,000 trucks a day from surface roads and help return local streets to local communities.

With works commenced in early 2022, the M6 Stage 1 project scope includes the construction of twin four-kilometre tunnels and associated works, linking the M8 Motorway at Arncliffe to President Avenue at Kogarah.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer/Project Engineer to join the team at the M6 Stage 1 Project in the Tunnel Team. Reporting to the Tunnel Project Manager, and based onsite, in this role you will be responsible for coordinating planning, design interface, program and construction methods for the tunnel excavation and civil fit-out works. This role has the potential to integrate into the delivery team.

The key responsibilities will include:

    Develop methodologies for delivery of excavation and civil fit-out works activities
    Leading the delivery of packages of tunnel excavation, civil works and pavements, while coordinating with the wider team
    Oversee the development and implementation of construction methods on site in consultation with the Senior Managers and Superintendent
    Productivity monitoring of works and reporting
    Procuring Materials and Subcontractors
    Assist/Coordinate the approval of permanent materials
    Manage interfaces with other sections of the project
    Develop and implement a positive safety culture across the project
    Verify the implementation and monitoring of all safety procedures on site
    Reviewing Design Packages to optimise solutions and ensure constructability
    Contribute to a ‘One Team’ culture so that site teams cooperate and integrate effectively
    Ensure team members are clear on their responsibilities – provide regular feedback to ensure effective performance and develop team members for succession opportunities
    Ensure project team members are fully aware of community, environment, quality and HR requirements and hold team to account in these areas

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Mining Engineering
    High level verbal and written communication skills
    Proven experience in successfully delivering large work packages
    Prior experience in roadheader tunnel excavation, waterproofing and tunnel civil construction  is preferred
    Ability to effectively manage budgets, systems and stakeholders to achieve an exceptional outcome

The successful candidate will be required to hold a current Construction Industry Induction Card (White Card or equivalent) and undergo a medical assessment (including drug and alcohol testing) prior to commencement.
