Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) began boring the left tunnel between the future Akademicheskaya and Krymskaya stations on the Troitskaya (Trinity) line of the Moscow metro. This was announced by Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow in the Moscow Government for urban planning policy and construction.
General Director of Mosinzhproekt (the company responsible for the general design & construction of new lines and stations of the Moscow metro) Yuri Kravtsov said the TBM Natalia will bore the 2,2 kilometer through a ground of mostly fine silty sands and sandstone at a depth of 20 meters. He said the same TBM was previously used in the construction of the tunnels of the Solntsevskaya and Bolshaya Koltsevaya metro lines.
The new Troitskaya line of Moscow Metro will be about 40 kilometes long. It will connect Moscow Central Circle (MCC) with the Moscow district of Troitsk. Currently in operation a total 5 tunnel boring machines including the TBM Natalia for Troitskaya line.
