From Femern A/S.
Femern A/S has signed a contract for delivery of a transformer station for the operations of the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel. The contract has a value of approx. DKK 300 million.
The transformer station will be one of the largest facilities of its type in Denmark. It will supply
power for the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel’s railway and 10 km railway on Lolland as well as the tunnel’s
electrical installations. Elecnor will begin work on the transformer station itself from 2023. It will be completed in stages and is expected to be ready in 2028.
The contract was won by the Spanish Elecnor, which has substantial experience from similar
projects across Europe. The contract commits Elecnor to high energy efficiency and to ensuring
that the transformer station will have the capacity to serve the electric modes of transport of the future, including charging stations for electric vehicles.
"Today’s contract signing represents yet another milestone in the construction of the Fehmarnbelt link. We’re very much looking forward to working with Elecnor on the important task of preparing the tunnel for CO2 neutral operations in 2029", says Jens Ole Kaslund, Technical Director, Femern A/S.
