Russian media reports that within the context of 5th route of Moscow central diameters (MCD-5), a 14 kilometer long deep tunnel under the central Moscow will be built. Russian media base this news to Andrei Bochkarev, deputy mayor of Moscow.
I had already posted about this almost 3 years ago. Please click to read "For MCD-5 line, a deep tunnel is needed under the central part of Moscow". Then it was Denis Vlasov, deputy head of the transport and engineering center of the Institute of the General Plan of Moscow who said "The main difficulty in organizing a transit route is associated with the need to build a deep and long railway tunnel in the city center,".
Vlasov then had said final decision to build the costly tunnel is not there yet. But with Moscow deputy mayor Bochkarev's has now announced that an approximate route for the tunnel has been decided.
MCD is a new transport system of the Moscow metropolitan area to connect the city with the environs. The routes will connect the territories of Moscow and the nearest Moscow region. The 52km long MCD-1 and 80km long MCD-2 opened in 2019. 3 More MCDs are planned: MCR-3, MCD-4 and MCD-5. All five projects will have 375 km with 186 stations.
