HS2 Job: Tunnel Surveyor (Job location: Northolt Tunnel West)

    Role

    Supporting Tunnel Construction teams by providing survey related activities.

    Role Responsibility

    • Guidance Move ups – One every 20m of tunnelling.
    • Guidance Control surveys – Traverse conducted every 60m of tunnelling.
    • Extending the tunnel control network – new bracket every 60m of tunnelling.
    • Extending the secondary spigot control network – pair of spigots every 40m of tunnelling.
    • Extending the levelling network – level benchmarks every 50m in the tunnel
    • Laser scanning the tunnel rings behind the TBM – Batch scan every 40m of tunnel.
    • Setting out the invert concrete, catch pits and UTX - Batch set out every 40m of tunnel.
    • Laser scanning the invert concrete for QA QC
    • Tunnel convergence monitoring. As soon as dewatering / ground freezing commences on CP34, that will be 50 monitoring points need surveying twice a day. By June, current plan, drilling will commence in CP33. In total will be over 200 monitoring points need to be surveyed either twice or once per day between both tunnels.
    • Cross passage monitoring and scanning.
    • Further monitoring is required for overburden and now more points at rugby club area.
    • QA QC reports for First stage concrete and scan data issued to design house.
    • Amberg modelling and profile creation for engineers for Cross passage construction – Very technical and time-consuming job.
    • Good maintenance / check and adjusts of survey instrumentation.

    The Ideal Candidate

    • Degree in Surveying, Geomatics or closely related discipline
    • Proven experience in a tunnel environment, preferable in SCL and TBM tunnelling.
    • Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately
    • Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicate outcomes
    • Strong work ethic with flexibility to work a shift pattern and unsociable hours/nights

    The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
