    Mayors burst through Forbordsfjellet

The E6 road project between Kvithammar and Åsen in Trøndelag has reached an important milestone. The project's longest tunnel, through Forbordsfjellet, has been successful. The final salvo was fired by mayors Eli Arnstad in Stjørdal municipality and Anita Sand in Levanger municipality.

Nye Veier is the developer for the new E6 between Kvithammar and Åsen in Trøndelag. The general contractor for the project is Hæhre Entreprenør AS. There are a total of five tunnels in the project, of which the Forbordsfjell tunnel, with its 6,100 metres, will be the longest.

The tunnel is so far the longest in Nye Veier's road portfolio. It also takes over first place after the Hitra tunnel, which with its 5,645 meters was Trøndelag's longest road tunnel.

The first salvo in Forbordsfjellet was fired on 22 February 2022. Since then, tunnels have been driven from both sides of the mountain. A year and a half later, the tunnel races met in the middle with a final salvo. Mayors in Stjørdal and Levanger municipalities had the honor of pressing the button.

    - Safe and secure roads are central to the local community up here. In addition, the whole country will benefit from us upgrading the E6 from a two-lane to a four-lane motorway, Arnstad said in his speech.

The road project is scheduled to open in 2027. The work has so far gone as planned, and the cooperation between Nye Veier and Hæhre has been good.

    - Nye Veier is very satisfied with Hæhre's delivery so far. We involved them early in the project's interaction phase, and now see that a solid plan has produced results. Faster tunneling, reduced costs and not least; no serious injuries, is what pleases us the most in relation to the work on the Forbordsfjell tunnel, says project manager at Nye Veier, Lars Erik Moe.

The work in the Forbordsfjell tunnel has so far taken 193,000 hours. 1 million cubic meters of rock have been blasted, which corresponds to 125,000 truck loads or approx. ten Nidarosdoms.

For Hæhre, the breakthrough in Forbordsfjellet also marks an important milestone.

    - It is the longest two-lane tunnel we have built in Hæhre's history. We are pleased that we can take part in the development of the infrastructure of the future. The project has provided opportunities for local subcontractors and apprentices, who gain valuable experience they can take with them further, says project manager in Hæhre, Reidar Løvhaugen.
