After more than 3 years of tenders, appeals, tender cancellations, re-tenders; finally the A3 road construction from Poarta to Nușfalău has a founder. Turkish consortium lead by MAKYOL Insaat Sanayi Turizm ve Ticaret A.Ş. has won the contract together with their project partner Özaltin Insaat Sanayi Turizm ve Ticaret A.Ş.

The MAKYOL-ÖZALTIN consortium won the design and construction work for 41 km of the Transylvania Highway (oarta Sălajului and Zalău and Zalău and Nuşfalău) with Meseș tunnel. It will be longest tunnel in Romania. 2.89 km-long Meseș tunnel will be twin-tube in each direction two lanes. There is much more than the Meseș tunnel in this tender of course: 41 km highway, many (65) viaducts, bridges and passages.

When the tender was first started in 2021, tender value was only 800 million euro plus VAT with the expectation that the work would complete after 36 months, hopefully 2024-end... Many companies found this amount very low. Companies asked for more technical information.  There were appeal by STRABAG which was later rejected by the Bucharest court. A re-tender came in begin 2023 with submission date of February 9 increased the tender value to 1.53 billion euros plus VAT. 6 Companies remained in the race with a new submission date.

Finally there is a builder. MAKYOL which won the tender with the price of approximately 9 Billion Lei (1.8 Billon euros).

The winning MAKYOL-OZALTIN Turkish consortium have assembled an international team of subcontractors.
