Xinhuanet reports Jintang Undersea Tunnel is a control project for the entire Yongzhou-Zhou Railway, with a total length of 16.18 kilometers, of which the undersea shield section is 11.21 kilometers long and has a maximum burial depth of 78 meters.

Railway will connect Jintang Islet in Zhoushan to the coastal region of Ningbo. Constructor of the Yongzhou-Zhou Railway Project is China Railway 14th Bureau.

Two tunnel boring machines will bore from opposite ends. First time in the world a large-diameter tunnel boring machines will be dismantled under the sea.
