    Genoa, March 4, 2024 - The works of the subporting tunnel of Genoa, the first submarine tunnel ever made in Italy and the largest in Europe, started this morning. It is a work that represents the excellence of Italian engineering and which contains all the characteristics of a new way of conceiving infrastructures. Designed with an in mind of environmental and social sustainability, the new tunnel represents a turning point of strategic relevance for the territory and for the country, improving both city connections, and accessibility to the port of Genoa, among the first Italian ports for freight traffic and passengers, fundamental access on the Mediterranean Sea to the European market for goods from/to the whole world.

    Thanks to the opening to the traffic of the new work, scheduled by August 2029, more than 1 million travel hours can be saved every year, with positive effects also in environmental terms. The city will also conquer 10 hectares of new urban parks on the surface, for the benefit of the communities. The tunnel project, in fact, was born as a real urban redevelopment plan, as well as transportation, placing itself the objective of contributing to the strengthening of the urban green network, going to mended highly anthropized areas with the creation of three new public parks and cycle and pedestrian paths capable of enhancing pre -existing buildings. The new parks will thus become an integral part of the Genoese landscape system, recalling its characteristics and the history of its territory, its gardens, parks, squares and its seafront, in favor of a structural continuity of the green systems in defense and support of quality environmental and biodiversity.

    The project, defined thanks to the contribution of the territorial institutions on the basis of the Genoa Masterplan drawn up by the Studio Renzo Piano and under the supervision of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, is an expression of the synergy among the companies of the ASPI group, starting from Tecne, Company of engineering that has edited its design, up to Amplia, the first construction company for national activities, which will take care of the first phase of processing.
