    Civil Tunnel Engineer Portland, OR

    Job Description

    The Water Business Line of AECOM is actively seeking a Civil Engineer to be based in Portland, Oregon.

    This position is expected to begin in June 2024.

    The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

    • Performing site investigations, soil laboratory testing interpretations, all manner of geotechnical analyses and calculations, rehabilitation designs, alternatives analyses, etc..

    • Receiving support from a group of geotechnical professionals with 2 to 30+ years of experience and who continuously coordinate, collaborate remotely, and foster training.

    • Completing independent project-related tasks and collaborating with multiple discipline design and project teams.

    • Offering strong, effective, communication skills and the ability to collaborate with a team across the nation and, possibly, around the world.

    • Support reviewing project plans, overseeing field operations, monitoring quality control, and providing managerial guidance.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Graduated from an ABET-accredited university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.

    • Valid U.S. Driver’s License is required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.

    • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, or degree in progress.

    • Engineer in Training Certification (EIT), or willingness to obtain within 6 months of employment.

    • Candidate has an active or is working towards a Professional Engineering (PE) License.

    • Preferred software experience with GeoStudio (SLOPE-W, SEEP-W, SIGMA-W, etc.), LPILE, APILE, GROUP, SHAFT, Plaxis, FLAC, Settle3D, and MathCAD.

    • Prior relevant experience in the tunnel industry.

    • Experience or knowledge in planning and completing drilling, field inspections and investigations, laboratory testing, advanced material characterization, seepage analysis, slope stability analysis, and settlement analysis and construction of tunnels, dams, levees, channel improvements, and other heavy civil projects.

    • Experience in construction inspection, such as tunneling deep foundation monitoring and testing, groundwater monitoring, and concrete placement monitoring.

    • Must have strong technical progression within fundamental topics in soil and rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering.

    • Able to perform daily tasks in a field environment.

    • Demonstrates a positive attitude, excels in fast-paced and complex projects, and adeptly manages multiple ongoing project tasks efficiently. Willing to work overtime, when needed, to complete a task to meet the client’s schedule or request.

    Additional Information

    • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

    • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.

    • Traveling time may increase depending on project assignments. The remaining time would be in an office or hybrid work environment, based on project needs and the supervisor’s approval.

    • This position may involve working flexible hours, including night shifts and weekends.

    Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $60,000.00 - $80,000.00.
