    Norway: New Røldalstunnel, Statens vegvesen

Statens vegvesen (The Norwegian Public Roads Administration) has announced a contract for E134 between Røldal and Seljestad.

    - We are very pleased to finally get started with the new Røldal tunnel, and it is a milestone that the contract now comes out in the market. This is a project many have been waiting for a long time, and which will both benefit private motorists and the heavy transport industry. E134 is one of the main connections between east and west, and a new tunnel will provide safer roads and shorter driving time, explains project manager Frode Lykkebø.

    Total contract is announced

The contract is a total contract that includes the design and construction of a trap tunnel with connection between Seljestad and Røldal. The contract has a value of 2.5 billion excl. VAT and encompassing:

    • 1.7 km of new road in the day at Liamyrane at Røldal.
    • 1.2 km of new road in the day at Seljestad, as well as a pedestrian and bicycle path of approx. 0.7 km
    • New tunnel between Liamyrene and Seljestad of about 12.4 km.
    • Various structures in connection with the road system.

The contracting process will be carried out with pre -qualification and negotiation, and the contract is scheduled to be entered into during the spring of 2025. Road opening is scheduled to take place in 2031.

    Pre -bidding work is underway

At Seljestad, preconceived work is underway, here a smaller bridge will be demolished to facilitate a 15.5 meter long tensioned concrete bridge. The bridge to be built will give access to what will be the Røldal tunnel's rig area.

    About the project

The E134 Røldal - Seljestad parcel provides a shortening of a driving length of 6.4 km and reduced travel time of about 18 minutes for heavier vehicles and about 12 minutes for passenger cars.

The new tunnel gets the traffic away from the elderly and the throne tunnels, and long areas with steep and winding road routes where especially heavy traffic has major problems in winter. New Røldal tunnel will be approx. 12.4 km, and will replace today's Røldal tunnel and the Seljestad tunnel and the heavy climbs in the Håradalen. West of the new tunnel, the parcel includes a new E134 in the day and a new intersection at Seljestad. Correspondingly, at the Liamyrane Aust, a new intersection and new column lineup will be established.

The project will give society a good traffic wound between eastern and western Norway with a safe throughout the year, in addition to achieving reduced time and transport costs.
