Job Duties

The Senior Electrician will inspect, repair, and maintain VDOT tunnels in a professional, safe, and cost-effective manner that meets VDOT’s strategic plan goals.

Core Responsibilities of the position include (but are not limited to):

• Diagnose Repairs: Proficiently use electrical test equipment, prints, and diagnostic equipment to accurately analyze electrical and mechanical equipment. Isolate malfunctions, perform repairs, fabricate and make modifications in a timely manner.
• Job Safety: Determine and demonstrate proper work site protection techniques. Ensure workplace safety by identifying workplace hazards and making suggestions for improvement. Wear proper personal protection equipment.
• Time Management: Maximize performance and cause no disruption to shift or activities by effectively using time management. Gain and maintain a thorough knowledge of standard operating procedures and other applicable regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Skill in basic computer operations.
• Experience working with AC and DC electrical circuits, low and high voltage electrical circuits, electrical switchgear, and heavy-duty electrical equipment.
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical and mechanical malfunctions.
• Experience using, reading, and interpreting complex electrical and mechanical reports.
• Experience working with control circuits, controls for pumps, motors, and various electrical systems.
• Valid Driver’s License
• DPOR Journeyman level Electrician certification or ability to obtain DPOR Journeyman Electrician certification within 6 months of employment and maintain thereafter.

Additional Considerations

• Experience in electrical-mechanical maintenance related to transportation or facility infrastructure.
• Experience in Programable Logic Controllers
• DPOR Master Electrician license
