    Centralny Port Komunikacyjny announced a tender for the construction of a 4.6-kilometer tunnel for the High-Speed ​​Railway in the area of ​​Łódź Fabryczna. This will be the third and largest construction contract for the currently most advanced CPK railway project. The remaining two are already under construction in the center of Łódź.

    - The CPK long-distance tunnel is a key element of the so-called “Y”, i.e. the planned High-Speed ​​Railway route between Warsaw, CPK, Łódź, Wrocław and Poznań. This is a very important investment that will affect the operation of the Polish railway, as well as an important step in the implementation of our 100-minute Poland project. Not only are we integrating all types of transport to create a coherent transport network in the country, but we are modernizing the infrastructure and speeding up trains to actually shorten the distances between cities - says Dariusz Klimczak, Minister of Infrastructure.

    – The tender for the tunnel in Łódź is proof that we continue to implement the CPK investment, guided by the benefits for passengers. This tunnel will be a very important element of the "Y" line, which is our investment priority. After the construction of the route from Łódź to Warsaw is completed in 2032, the journey between these cities will be shortened to approximately 40 minutes, which is much shorter than today. This will be a time comparable to the time of traveling by Warsaw metro from Kabaty station to Młociny station - emphasizes Maciej Lasek, Government Plenipotentiary for CPK.

    The tunnel under the center of Łódź, which will be excavated with a TBM mechanized disc with a diameter of approx. 14 meters, will be approx. 4.6 km long. There will be two tracks inside, allowing trains to run in both directions. – This will be the longest and largest-diameter underground railway crossing constructed using this method in Poland so far. The construction of the HSR tunnel in Łódź is one of the most technically demanding elements of the "Y" railway line. It is also the most advanced of our projects – adds Dr. Filip Czernicki, President of CPK.

    The CPK company plans to open offers in the tender at the end of September. The most advantageous offer will be selected based on price (70% of the tender criteria) and staff qualifications (30%). The contractor will have 46 months from signing the contract to complete the order.

    Trains traveling on railway line No. 85 (LK85) from Warsaw will enter the tunnel from the Łódź Fabryczna station. The tunnel exit to the surface will be located southwest of Łódź Kaliska, near the Retkinia estate and the existing LK14. Then the route will lead west - towards Sieradz, behind which there will be a "Y" fork - to Wrocław and Poznań.

    CPK has so far signed two out of three large contracts regarding Łódź. The first is an agreement to strengthen the foundations of the Łódź Cultural Center (ŁDK), which are already well advanced. The second contract already signed is the contract for the construction of chambers: the starting chamber in Retkinia (works are already in progress) and the receiving chamber in Fabryczna (work will start after the works on ŁDK are completed).

    The strengthening of the foundations of ŁDK, on ​​the western side of the Łódź Fabryczna station, has been carried out by Keller Polska since September last year. The value of this contract is over PLN 93 million net. The operation should be completed in mid-2025.

    The starting chamber, enabling the start of drilling using a TBM mechanized shield, is being built near the Retkinia estate - southwest of Łódź Kaliska. The work is carried out by Budimex, with which CPK signed a contract worth PLN 147 million net in December last year. According to the contract, work on the Launch Chamber should be completed this year. The construction of the long-distance CPK tunnel is coordinated with the ongoing construction of the PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe tunnel - for regional and agglomeration traffic.
