S-Bahn tunnel Graz: starting shot for the first study Public transport in Graz is to be gradually improved. An inner-city S-Bahn tunnel is a concrete idea for this. How such a project can look like and whether the goals can be achieved in this way is now being examined in a first study by ÖBB, State Styria and the city of Graz.

ÖBB CEO Andreas Matthä: “The strengthening of inner-city local transport is a prerequisite for the environmentally friendly mobility of tomorrow. We already have to think about this today and check innovative traffic solutions. This first study is an important step to assess feasibility and to enable future public transport around Graz. Because it is clear that more and more people are discovering the many advantages of public transport and also want to use them. ”

Governor Deputy Anton Lang: “There are major challenges in terms of traffic in terms of traffic in terms of traffic in terms of traffic. It is therefore of enormous importance to expand the transport systems of the future accordingly so that the Grazer: inside and thousands of commuters: the best conditions are offered. With the in -depth study we take another important step. "

Vice Mayor Judith Schwentner: “More and more people commute to Graz every day. In order for this development to be designed in the long term, we need powerful and environmentally friendly solutions. Studies in recent years have shown that S-Bahn and trams for Graz are the best transport systems. The new S-Bahn tunnel analysis shows the clear will to expand the transport infrastructure climate-friendly and future-proof. ”

Basis for further steps This is primarily intended to create the decision -making basis whether the idea should be followed up in this form. Only then will further steps be determined, such as the sequence of possible further planning processes. The "traffic-technical analysis" of internal and external experts: inside is implemented. A joint financing agreement will be decided by the Graz municipal council next week.

S-Bahn expansion Graz at a glance In order to make mobility as comfortable, fast and environmentally friendly as possible, a continuous improvement of the S-Bahn system in the Graz area will be followed. The temporal implementation horizon for the now examined S-Bahn tunnel is currently after 2040. With the start of the traffic and technical analysis, an important step is already taking place.
