Tenders are starting to the western bypass of Szczecin including 5 km tunnel in Poland

The western beltway of Szczecin along the S6 expressway will be nearly 50 km long, including 5 km it will be a tunnel near the Oder in the Police region. It is to be the longest road tunnel in Poland. - We dreamed of an economically strong region, to which you come, and not from which you leave. Over the years, we had a feeling of cutting off from the country and underinvestment. This is just changing - said the Marshal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship Olgierd Geblewicz during a press briefing, at which representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways announced the announcement of tenders for the construction of ZOS.

    - The postulate to build a western bypass of Szczecin was a dream for many years. We dreamed of an economically strong region, to which you come, and not from which you leave. Bold dreams, but also infrastructure were needed for this. Over the years, we had a feeling of cutting off from the country and underinvestment. I am very happy that I managed to go this path from the very bottom, from the moment when I met with understanding the government - said the Marshal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship Olgierd Geblewicz.

The first specific steps - signing of the letter of intent - were taken in 2006, then in December 2007 an agreement was signed between the West Pomeranian Voivodeship and the city of Szczecin, the Police poviat, the Police commune and the Goleniów commune in the scope of joint implementation of "The Western Road Facility Study of the City of Szczecin" along with "Environmental impact report". The years 2009 - 2010 are work on a feasibility study. In June 2010, the Sejmik of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship approved a positively preferred variant of the course and obliged the voivodship marshal to submit an application to the Minister of Infrastructure regarding the passing of investments in the national road category. It took the next 5 years to convince the government to enter the investment in the national road network. After 10 years - in December 2017 an environmental decision was issued. In January 2018, at the request of the voivodship marshal, the decision of 19 December 2017 on environmental conditions for the implementation of ZOS was transferred to the investor - the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways.

    - This investment is a great challenge. After almost two decades, we can say that we feel more and more integrated, although we are the furthest from Warsaw and Warsaw from us. But this integration also gives us great developmental stimuli. Today, Western Pomerania is one of those regions that are most dynamically developing and has a perspective for further very large development. We become a logistics hub in this part of Europe. Our infrastructure is used by logistics companies not only from Poland, but from all of Scandinavia, the Baltic Sea region, but also the south of Europe. A gigantic flywheel is also tourism, which also requires development and infrastructure. We are also a leader when it comes to the production of green energy, around which - like once around the mine, economic life will accumulate - added Olgierd Geblewicz.

    - A decision was made, one of the most important, when it comes to national roads that the ministry took in 2024. Many residents of Western Pomerania waited for this, but not only. The economy and entrepreneurs who operate here or plan to run it. There is no doubt that this decision is cost -intensive money is and the western beltway of Szczecin - the so -called Zośka will be built - assured the Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak.

The investment contractors selected in the tender will have the task of developing executive projects and carrying out construction works. For sections Kołbaskowo - Dłuje and Dłuje - Police Implementation terms will be the same as for standard road sections. That is why the ending here is planned in 2028. On the other hand, the POLICE - Goleniów section with a tunnel near the Oder, will have a much longer delivery time, due to the need to hollow and equip a 5 km -long tunnel. The drivers will probably benefit from this episode in 2032.

    - For me as a resident of Szczecin is a special moment. We have been implementing the most ambitious decision in 30 years. Such money has never flowed into our region. Together with the beltway, Whachzyc and Przecław ZOS, it will be an investment for almost PLN 8 billion. It will make the lorry that go to Police will no longer travel through Szczecin. It will relieve the city, relieve the northern districts of Szczecin - added the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure Arkadiusz Marchewka.

The new route will relieve the current route of A6, S3 and S6 bypassing Szczecin from the south and the east. The new S6 will close the ring around Szczecin, which will significantly improve the communication of the entire Szczecin agglomeration with the Fast Road Roads. The new road will be of particular importance for the Police north of Szczecin. Currently, to get from Police to the Goleniów North junction (S3/S6) on the other side of the Oder, you have to travel 58 km. After building the beltway, this route will shorten to 23 km, and the travel time several times.

The key element of ZOS will be the tunnel near the Oder. The beltway will cut the Odra River north of Police, which leads the water track to the port of Szczecin. Due to field conditions and environmental issues, S6 will pass a 5 km long tunnel under the Oder Tunnel. It will be a two -outdoor object drilled with the TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) machine. The outer diameter of the tunnel will be almost 15 m, and the housing thickness is 60 cm. The bottom of the tunnel structure will go down to a maximum of 51 m below the ground level, while the road will be at a depth of up to 45 m. The entrance sections to the tunnel will be about 600 m long.

The construction of the Western Ring Rest by the S6 expressway was divided into three implementation sections: Kołbaskowo - Pokłuje (13.6 km), pounds - Police (11.9 km) and Police - Goleniów (23.4 km).
