Statens vegvesen (The Norwegian Public Roads Administration) has set the contracting company OneCo Infra AS for the assignment in the Nappstraum tunnel. Construction work starts this winter.

Four contractors competed for the job. The others who participated in the competition were BMO Tunnelsikring AS, Kraftmontasje AS and Bertelsen & Garpestad AS.

OneCo Infra AS who won the contract has delivered a good offer on the job, and we are sure that we will be left with a good end result, says project manager at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Jøran Heimdal.

A major upgrade job

The Nappstraum tunnel will be upgraded in accordance with the Tunnel Safety Regulations. The job is great and includes the necessary rehabilitation work and upgrading of safety equipment.

- The tunnel was opened in 1990 with the standard of the time, so it is clear that the upgrading work will be extensive to satisfy the current requirements for the Tunnel Safety Regulations, says Heimdal.

Upgrading of technical installations such as ventilation systems, lighting systems, emergency stations and monitoring systems will be carried out. Furthermore, accident pockets and technical rooms will be blasted inside the tunnel, in addition to the establishment of new water and frost protection. In today's tunnel there is a fittings on the inside of the tunnel run that must be demolished, and new asphalt will be laid in the lane. Construction start winter 2025

Physical plant work in the tunnel will start this winter. We will get back to the consequences for traffic congestion, when we have finished start -up meetings/interaction meetings with the contractor, concludes Heimdal.

The E10 Nappstraum tunnel is underwater and goes under the strait (Nappstraumen) between the municipalities Vestvågøy and Flakstad in Lofoten. The Nappstraum tunnel is 1780 meters long. The lowest point is 63 m.u.h. And the biggest climb is 8 percent ..
