Statens vegvesen (The Norwegian Public Roads Administration) invites to competition for operation and maintenance of tunnels, road lights, signaling systems, weather stations and other electrical installations on the national roads at Helgeland and in Salten.

The contract is valid from September 1, 2025 and five years to come, with the possibility of another three years.

In addition to the 4913 road lights that will glow along E6, E12, highway 73, 77, 80 and 827, there are more and more electrical systems on and along the roads. Among other things, 36 tunnels with light and safety equipment will be operated and maintained through the new contract.

    More technology along the roads

    - Our road network contains a variety of sensors, weather stations and cameras. These provide both the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and road users useful information. Good operation and maintenance of electrical installations is just as important as following up on the road itself, says construction manager Roger Pedersen at Statens vegvesen.

He points out that the electrical systems are also crucial for safety. An example is AID camera in the tunnel. When an event occurs in the tunnel, the cameras will immediately register, alert and transfer images to the Road Traffic Center. Helps and secures road users

    - The contractor who wins the contract must be prepared for exciting challenges and be solution -oriented. There is constantly new technology to secure and help road users. A Lidar Scanner System is established in Ulsvågskaret, which gives early warning when vehicles are stopped on the mountain crossing. There will also be several new free text tablets, which are used to notify road users early in the way of events on the road, says Roger Pedersen.

    Greener operation

Statens vegvesen requires that road operation be as climate and environmentally friendly as possible. Among other things, there are requirements in the announcement that 90 per cent of all driving with light vehicles should take place free of emissions.

The large contract will also provide stable jobs over time in a large part of the county.
