It was agreed with Infrastructure Plan 2035 in 2021 that a tunnel should be made under Marselis Boulevard in Aarhus, which can lead the traffic below the city rather than through. The settlement circle behind the agreement agrees that the Bill for the Construction Act of the Tunnel is sent in public consultation.

18,000 vehicles run on Marselis Boulevard every day. It is especially traffic to and from the harbor that loads the road, including about 3000 trucks and semi -trailer trains a day. With the Infrastructure Agreement of 2021, the Conciliation Circle agreed to allocate money to a tunnel under Marselis Boulevard that can move the heavy, through traffic underground. Since the conclusion of the agreement, the Road Directorate has worked on the environmental impact assessment of the project, which was completed in 2024.

In addition, there has been a challenge with placement of surplus land, where there is now agreement to use the land to establish a noise violence at Stavtrup. The establishment of the noise violence and noise screens at Stavtrup will mean that approx. 860 homes get the noise reduced by more than 3 dB.

Based on the environmental impact assessment, the settlement circle is now ready to send the bill on the construction of the tunnel in public consultation. It is planned that the bill will be considered in the Folketing in the spring.

    • The tunnel is about 2 kilometers long and must connect the motorway network with the Port of Aarhus
    • The tunnel starts in the west at Åhavevej and ends at Østhavnsvej
    • Four lanes must be established with two unidirectional lanes in each tunnel pipe.
    • The tunnel pipes become 9 meters wide.
    • The speed limit becomes 60 km/h
    • The construction work itself is done by digging up Marselis Boulevard, establishing the tunnel pipes and then establishing Marselis Boulevard again.
    • The environmental impact assessment of the construction project was in public consultation until 9 January 2025.
