The Council of Ministers have authorized the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to tender for 363 million euros (VAT not included) the construction of the first section of the new High Speed Lin (LAV) Burgos-Vitoria: the 8.4 km stretch between Pancorbo and Ameyugo.
The contract, to be tendered through Adif AV, includes the construction of the platform of the intermediate section, on which the line will be tended, of double track and standard width. The route is located in the province of Burgos between the sections Pirnigas-Pancorbo and Ameyugo-Manzanos, whose projects are in the process of being drafted.
The action is a new technical and engineering challenge, since 77% of the total section runs in a succession of three tunnels and three viaducts, with which the new line will be integrated in a respectful way into the environment and the rest of the endowments with which it crosses will be adapted, such as the A-1 motorway, which it draws up to twice.
Among the most outstanding structures of the layout are the continuation of the Pancorbo tunnel, 4 km through which the line crosses the Obrenes Mountains; and the 1.1 km viaduct that, just after the tunnel, flies over the A-1, the autonomic road SC-BU-7 and the Arroyo de la Llosa.
Next tender for the rest of the tranches
The Burgos-Vitoria high-speed line will have a total of 96.6 km and involves the deployment of a new standard double track line and a single-track baips in Miranda de Ebro, which will allow train stop in this town and non-stop circulation on the outside.
The construction of the line is structured in seven sections, all in progress. Thus, the Ministry advances in the projects of the other six to have all tendered in 2026: Rail Variante de Burgos-Valle de las Navas, Valle de las Navas-Pirnigas, Pirnigas-Pancorbo, Ameyugo-Manzanos and integration in Miranda de Ebro and the Manzanos-La Puebla de Arganzn route, and La Puebla de Arganzn-Irua de Oca.
Connection of the Basque Country at high speed
The LAV Burgos-Vitoria will connect the Basque Country to our high-speed network, the largest in Europe (4,000 km), and improve its communication and travel times with the center and the rest of the country, strengthening cohesion and territorial vertebration.
In addition, it is a remarkable step forward in the development of the Atlantic Corridor. In this sense, the new line gives continuity to the Madrid-Valladolid-Burgos High Speed Line, not only to the Basque Country, where it will link with the high-speed network that is currently built between the three Basque capitals, but also to the French border.
This action contributes to SDGs number 9 (promoting sustainable, efficient and quality infrastructure), 7 (sustainability), and 8 (contribution to economic growth and employment generation).
European funding
These actions may be co-financed by the European Union Connect Europe Facility (ECF).
