Hydro Energi AS has announced that it intends to enter into a contract with AF Gruppen for the construction of the Valldalen dam and flood diversion project. The agreement has an estimated value of MNOK 200 excl. VAT.
Dam Valldalen is located in Ullensvang municipality and dams up Valldalsmagasinet, the largest reservoir for Røldal power plant. Hydro is now preparing dam Valldalen for climate change and increased flooding. AF Gruppen will carry out the structural work.
At dam Valldalen, the existing concrete spillway will be demolished. A new concrete dam with a sluice gate in the bottom will be built (new spillway with sluice gate) to replace the concrete spillway that is being demolished. The side channel for flood water will be expanded by blasting, and a new flood tunnel will be established/blasted in addition to the existing flood shaft/tunnel. To make room for the expansion of the side channel, the road past the spillway will have to be moved somewhat into the terrain.
The start of the works is planned for April 2025 and completion in June 2026.
- AF Gruppen is pleased to have been chosen by Hydro to build the new flood diversion. The project fits well with our capacity and expertise within tunnels, concrete and hydropower. AF looks forward to a good collaboration with Hydro, says Geir Flåta, Executive Vice President Construction at AF Gruppen.
