One step closer to new E45 Kløfta in Finnmark
– The E45 Kløfta is a landslide-prone section with demanding gradients in places. The section is therefore a bottleneck for heavy traffic between Finnmark and abroad in the winter. The current road is also of poor standard in places. The government is now submitting a proposal to the Storting on a cost framework for the road project. This brings us one big step closer to completing this important section, says Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård.
The state budget for 2025 has set aside funds for the project to start in 2025. The government also assumed that it would return to the Storting with a proposal for a cost framework once external quality assurance, so-called KS2, had been completed. This external quality assurance has now been completed, and the government is proposing a cost framework for the project of 2,059 million 2025 kroner.
Road opening planned for 2029
The development project is 7.6 km long. A 4.2 km tunnel will be built here, while 3.2 km will be a new road in the open. A 150-meter bridge will also be built. The road will be built with a width of 9 meters, and when it is completed it will provide a safe, predictable and good road all year round.
– This is a long-awaited and very important project, which will have great significance for, among other things, commercial transport on the way in and out of Norway. The project has also been a high priority locally and regionally for several years, says Nygård.
Construction on the project is scheduled to start in 2026, and the new road will be opened to traffic in 2029.
