When the deadline expired to offer the operation and maintenance of 31 tunnels in Oslo and the surrounding area over the next five years, Mesta AS was the only provider who has bid for the contract.

The 31 tunnels to be operated and maintained are located in the country's busiest and most densely populated area - Oslo, Asker, Bærum, Hole, Nordre Follo, Ås, Frogn, Lørenskog and Rælingen.

- The contract includes cleaning of the road tunnels on the European and national road networks in and around Oslo. In addition, follow -up of the operation of cleaning solutions is under emission requirements. Other tasks are inspection of the tunnels' construction, follow -up of technical installations and operations and maintenance measures, says the construction manager for the tunnel contracts in Oslo and Akershus in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Ole Kristian Kjosbakken.

One Offer

Only one offer had come in when the offer deadline expired on May 26, and it was from Mesta AS. Mesta has had the tunnel contract in the Oslo area for the last two periods, that is for ten years.

- It is not surprising that there are few providers. This is a comprehensive contract in a narrow field, but it is of course a pity for competition in the market that we do not get more, says Kjosbakken.

Statens vegvesen (The Norwegian Public Roads Administration) will now control and quality assure the offer from Mesta before the contract can be entered into during the summer.

The contract is for the period of from September 1, 2025 to August 31, 2030, with the possibility of extension for up to three years.
