The Minister of Transportation and Communications, Edmer Trujillo, announced that a tunnel will be constructed between Chaclacayo and Huarochirí, in the eastern part of the capital, so that the vehicular traffic that circulates along the Central Highway can be decongested.
This tunnel will have a length of 13 kilometers and will be connected between the Los Angeles bridge (in the district of Chaclacayo) and the Ricardo Palma bridge (in the province of Huarochirí. The construction of the tunnel is an initiative that was already proposed in mid-2017 by then the head of the MTC, Bruno Giuffra. Since then, traffic congestion on the Central Highway has worsened.
The current management of the MTC reported that the works that are carried out on the Oyón - Ambo highway, to widen that route by almost 50 kilometers, and that it can operate as an alternate route to the Central Highway, had a breakthrough (as of October) of 17.8%, and its works would culminate in 2020.
