Colombian Institute for Subterranean Infrastructure Technologies and Techniques (ICTIS) recognizes the pipe lying machine by Zilante brothers as the 'first tunneling machine produced in Colombia'.
But machine is more than only Colombia-first tunnel machine. It has many recognition for its design.
The tunneling machine designed and manufactured by Daniel and Robert Zilante brothers is also recognized for its innovative design. The brothers, born and raised in Venezuela before moving to Colombia a few years ago, have together set up a company called Zilper Trenchless operating out of Bogota with a branch in Boston where Daniel Zilante did his MBA at Sloan School of Management of famous MIT.
Zilper's design gets the first place at 'MIT Design X'
where it is mentioned as:
Zilper is reducing the cost of building, installing, and maintaining underground infrastructure.
Their first product is a machine that drastically reduces the cost of installing water piping by eliminating the need to dig trenches. Compared to other technologies, Zilper’s machine is cheaper, uses less energy, and is much more versatile. In the future, this technology has the opportunity to improve not only water infrastructure, but gas and telecommunications as well.

The brothers also pocket $10,000 Audience Choice award at MIT's entrepreneurship awards.
South America is a continent of great beginnings. I hope it will be the start of a sustainable business for the brothers.I wish them success.
