During the construction of Milano's Blue Line subway tunnel, 42 year old tunnel engineer Raffaele Ielpo died. Accident happened when he was doing the measurements in the subsoil to calculate the height of the wall of an emergency exit of the future M4. The specialized technician has been swept away at 18 meters depth by a subsidence of the upper part of the excavation in which he was staying working in the blue subway construction site at Piazza Tirana.
Raffaele Ielpo's CV says he was a TBM technician. His work experience also includes work from China to South Africa and 3 years spent in Oslo, Norway, working on the two 22.5 km twin tunnels for the High Speed line.
