Town council of Bruchsal (south west Germany) votes on January 28th to have an inner city road tunnel instead of a new B35 bypass in the north of the town. The municipal council decided on a tunnel between the en Schnabel-Henning-Straße and the Weiherberg residential area. This is technically feasible with a maximum road gradient of 6%, say experts.

It is short tunnel. Only 100 meters.

Problem with the current situation is that half of the vehicles which use B35 are trucks. Trucks prefer B35 because it is toll-free as opposed to A8. Problem is B35 goes right in middle of town. Therefore a B35 bypass in the north was proposed but now city chose to go for a tunnel taking B35 underground in inner city.
