What are the WTC2022 Candidates?
Which countries are the candidates for the World Tunnel Congress 2022?
Now we know.
This is most unfortunate.
India has great opportunities and prospects for tunnelling and the tunnellers. There are dozens of tunnelling projects ongoing in India.
How many tunnelling projects are there now in Mexico? Not many.
A very very short-sighted voting act by the members of International Tunnelling Association. Most unfortunate for the tunnelling world.
I thought Mexico was one of the most active tunnelling countries in the World.
Look, it is in the news. The drug cartels are boring hundreds of tunnels under the US-Mexico border :-) They are so much in love with the tunnel that even the leader of the Sinaola cartel -none less than "El Chapo"- gets his men dig tunnels for his personal journeys!

It is not credible to suggest that Mexico is not a tunnelling country. Even the water tunnels constructed for the Mexico city is many times longer than the metro network of many cities in other countries. And mind you, these tunnels are huge in diameters,

The more I see many tunnel projects in India, the more I get angry of International Tunnel Association. ITA members voted to have a tequila vacation in Cancun Mexico in place of a real tunnelling athmospere in India.
Most disturbing.
Shame on you ITA members.Yes! International "Tunnelling" Association chose tequila vacation in Mexico over tunnelling country India.
Shame is on ITA members and also on ITA.
Also shame on a certain large TBM company who did lobbying for WTC2022 to go to Mexico. That TBM company sells many TBMs in India. It is our shame it is India's shame that we still let them sell their tunnel boring machines in India.
I don't have the slightest idea what factors played role ITA representatives' voting.
Here several things were suggested. I cannot talk about the alleged TBM maker's lobbying. Since it was also suggested that Tequila and vacation feeling played a role, allow me to say that with that criteria alone, I would definitely choose Mexico over India. Yes I like tequila. I like cocktails and I like mariachi music, I like that vacation feeling in Mexico.
Tunnelling contentwise, I don't think WTC2022 in Mexico will be any different from a would be WTC2022 in India. Having fun in conference trips is undeniably part of the fun.

OK. Nobody replied and I found out meantime. Some after fact:
There were two candidates:
1- Goa (India)
2- Cancun (Mexico)
And Cancun won. So WTC2022 Cancun!
