Province of Groningen made things look rosy to snatch the Hyperloop European Test Center

European Hyperloop Center Groningen The Netherlands

Groningen was in the race with the province of Zeeland to host the Hyperloop test center. At the end of 2019, Delft-based Hardt Hyperloop has chosen province of Groningen for building a 3 kilometer long hyperloop test track.

Now it looks like Groningen made its bid look more attractive than it actually was. According to the  Dutch newspaper Provinciale Zeeuwse Courant's investigation, Groningen downplayed the risks in its bid. In Groningen's bid documents. Hardt hyperloop had asked both provinces to evaluate the risks and control measures surrounding the arrival of the hyperloop, including any possible objections and delaying procedures of residents.

Groningen mentioned in its bid only three risks and they were very brief. Zeeland though, mentioned 8 different risks in its bid and probably was more realistic.

The residents of the Meerstad in Groningen province where the test track is expected to be built, complain that they have been informed about the decision too late and that the decision has been taken without any proper consultation.
