Again cracks in Bowbazar houses as soon as Kolkata East-West metro excavation restarted
As soon as East-West metro excavation restarted with a new tunnel boring machine, new cracks in houses also appeared. They are defined as "hairline cracks" but nevertheless they are cracks.
The excavation under Bowbazar had restarted in the past few days with a new tunnel boring machine and under strict supervision. As a precaution the houses along the route of the tunnel were temporarily evacuated.
Accordingly India Outlook, Kolkata Metro Railway Corporation (KMRC) general manager, administration, A K Nandy says "We assure that these will not cause any permanent damage to the buildings as all precautions have been taken for the tunnel boring work,". I am not sure whether the residents are comforted with these words.

Whatever KMRC may keep saying, it does not change the fact that new cracks appear in peoples' houses over the path of Kolkata's East-West metro boring.
