Building of DKK 3.4 Billion tunnel under Svanemøllen in Copenhagen is in progress

The 1.4 kilometer long tunnel from Østerbro to Nordhavn under the Svanemøllebugten (Swan Mill Bay) will be completed by the end of 2027, or more likely sometime in 2028. The Nordhavn (North Harbour) tunnel will have two lanes in each direction and it will be an concrete cast tunnel.

The new Nordhavn tunnel will allow more urban development areas in the Nordhavn area which Copenhagen needs bady. Every year the population of Copenhagen increases by 10,000 people.

Already a new tunnel opened to Nordhavn in 2017 Nordhavnsvej between Helsingør motorway and Strandvænget. The new tunnel will be connected to the existing one.

Proposals for construction law for the Nordhavn Tunnel have been in two consultation rounds over the summer of 2019 and finally passed in a construction law that came into force on 1 January. 2020.
