The proposed 270km-long train link between Lyon and Turin, which would also have one of the longest rail tunnels in the world, risks being shelved following EU elections.
Italy's 5-star movement is against the project due tothe cost and environmental reasons:

I think at the end it will be built. I am saying this because the big-brother of the government coalition is Lega party and Lega is behind this project in full force.
Lega supports this expensive tunnel to France because it will primarily benefit the Northern Italy. Lega's power base is in Northern Italy. Everything they do is for Northern Italy, If it was left to them, they would even move the capital from Roma to Milano. Or even better, they would set up a separate country there.
In the European elections, Lega benefited a lot and the other coalition party Five Star movement did bad. So there will be some quarrel and maybe another government etc.
One thing is certain: it will take time to take the final decision.
