Asian Development Bank fund Tajik Tunnel
Asian Development Bank (ADB) agree to fund US$110 million for first stage of Tajikistan's Obigarm with Nurobod road link. The 75km road has tunnels and bridges and budget of $350 million.
The work includes tunnel part of M34 highway between capital Dushanbe and Kujand. Istihklal Tunnel work originally started by Iran. Now also Iran Water & Power Resources Development Company (IWPCO) will build the road and tunnels.
Following discussions between Tajikistan Government and Iran Government, work is now recommencing on the Istiklol Tunnel in Tajikistan for ventilation, lighting and other electrical, mechanical systems. It connect capital Dushanbe with second biggest city Khujand.
Work originally started in 2007. Later stopped when money ran out. 5km long at an altitude 2,750m.
