After boring 9 kilometers of 57.5 kilometers long Rocca d'Ambin Base Tunnel and 3 short years, Tunnel Boring Machine Federica is retiring. Her services are no more needed. It was built by now defunct French manufacturer NFM Technologies.
Rocca d'Ambin Base Tunnel is the most important part of the Torino - Lyon high speed train railway. This railway is a very important part of European railway network from West to East Europe.
The rest of the 57.5 kilometers of Rocca d'Ambin Base Tunnel will be bored by 7 other TBMs. And none of them will come from NFM...(French call the mountain Mont d'Ambin).
