First TBM to arrive for Łódź cross-city tunnel. Authorities are hopefull of catching up with project delay
Work for Łódź cross-city tunnel ran into delay after Energopol Szczecin which is one of the consortium members ran into serious problems in July 2019. Work delayed while consortium dealt with finding a new leader. Now it is hoped that the lost time will be caught up according to PKP PLK and consortium PBDiM Mińsk Mazowiecki Mariusz Serżysko.
Now design work goes faster. Still to be decided is a third stop in the Kozin area. It was not in the tender documents, but PKP PLK and the contractor are considering to add it in project.
The first TBM a Herrenknecht will arive in Łódź in January 2020, Boring will start in spring and according to contract the tunnel connecting the Łódź Fabryczna station with Łódź Kaliska and Żabieniec will open in December 2021. Just as it was planned before the delay.
The first tunnel boring machine to arrive will be the one with smaller diameter. Its acceptance tests finished in Herrenknecht factory in Schwanau Germany.

The news in Poland says the Monday presentation of the smaller TBM that will bore the tunnel under Łódź was canceled by PKP Polish Railway Lines. I could not find the reason. Maybe there is problem with assembly? I don't know. Maybe someone in this group knows?
The construction is in delay for 7 months but they say it will finish by December 2021. The very fact that it is the end of 2021 makes me suspicious that it is not a real deadline. Maybe they do not want to announce a completion delay now and they will announce it later when they show some results. I don't know. I am only speculating.
This is bigger diameter (13.1 m) Lodz Herrenknecht at German company's factory before shipment to Łódź.
" Herrenknecht representative emphasizes, the machine is not universal - it was designed specifically for the needs of Łódź. - The project in Łódź is difficult. The construction will be carried out in the very center of the city, quite shallow (covering in the deepest place will be only 25 meters), and the geological conditions are varied, as usual in the postglacial area. Only with archaeological discoveries we do not foresee problems - says Petrow-Ganew. He points out, however, that the shield has been constructed to deal with all difficulties"

Second Łódź TBM (diameter 12.7m) starts arriving from Herrenknecht factory in Germany
The second and larger tunnel boring machine is arriving in Łódź in pieces.
It is 13.04 meter in diameter. It will be used in the tunnel of 2.5 kilometer with diameter of 12.7 meter. Publication writes that delivery of some parts took longer than expected due to low water level on river Rhine.

Start chamber walls for Łódź cross-city tunnel, 1.5 m thick by 2.8 m wide and 11.2 meters high, weiging 29 tons were made in Poland by Soletanche Polska, the world leader in underground construction. They will be used for the largest Tunnel Boring Machine (diameter 13metre) ever used in Poland.
Both tunnel boring machines have arrived in Łódź.
Inzynieria writes the bigger TBM arrived in Łódź too. Via water. The smaller (8,7m) TBM had arrived months ago. Now all parts for also the big TBM arrived in Łódź.
TBM starting chambers are being prepared.
After arrival of the both Łódź cross-city tunnel TBM machines, next is the assembly
Łódź tunnelling: The 30 meter deep and 13 meter deameter shaft (starting chamber of TBM) at Odolanowska Street is almost ready for Herrenknecht TBM to start boring in December. The two-track tunnel will be 3 kilometers long reaching Łódź Fabryczna station.
The second shaft is smaller in diameter because the smaller TBM will start boring from there for a single track 8.5 m diameter tunnels two towards Łódź Kaliska and two towards Łódź Żabieniec. This shaft is also shallower at 18 meter deep.

The tunnel under Łódź is delayed by 7 months
Information from the Ministry of Infrastructure says the tunnel is delayed because of the change of the consortium leader. Enegopol Szczecin, which went bankrupt, was replaced by Przedsiębiorstwo Budowy Drog i Mostów from Mińsk Mazowiecki.
The tunnel will connect three Łódź stations, but its significance will affect the entire railway infrastructure in the country, such as connections between Lublin and Poznań or Warsaw and Wrocław.
The Tunnel Boring Machines are already being imported from Germany.
