Never-ending tunnel construction Eğribel Geçidi (Eğribel Passage)

    Turkey's one of the last remaining independent TV broadcasters Halk TV delves into the never-ending tunnel construction Eğribel Geçidi (Eğribel Passage).

    Again announced the construction end in 2021. As many times before.

    Eğribel Geçidi will connect Black Sea coast coast city Giresun to Central Anatolian city Sivas. Construction was awarded to a relatively unknown company Mön İnşaat. Construction started in 2014. After the US-sponsored coup attempt in 2016, there was a brief interrupt in explosive supplies. In April 2018, state-run Anadolu Agency reported that only 50 meters was left for the left tube and 600 meters for the right tube and the construction would finish in 2018 June. I think it is a difficult performance.

    Then in August 2018 the contractor Mön İnşaat let 80 workers go for lack of funds and in November 2018 Mön İnşaat abandoned the construction completely.

    In 2019 there was a new tender and the construction awarded to a consortium companies Mön İnşaat  (Yes the same company!) - ASL İnşaat. I don't know why government invited only 7 companies to the tender. All companies close to Erdoğan's AKP ("ak parti").  It is not considered a fair tender. ASL İnşaat which was piggybacked to the construction is owned by ruling AKP ex-MP...
