First tubes of the Gaasperdammertunnel in Amsterdam have opened for traffic on 5 July.
Minister Van Nieuwenhuizen opened the 2 northern tunnel tubes of the Gaasperdammertunnel. The tunnel is part of the Schiphol-Amsterdam-Almere (SAA) road expansion. It is also the longest land tunnel in The Netherlands. According to Ballast Nedam website, two southern tubes will be opened later in 2020 and a fifth tube will be opened in 2026.
The project is being commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat and built by IXAS, a consortium of Ballast Nedam, Heijmans and Fluor.
