Well-read Dutch construction magazine Cobouw writes that the construction of the passengers tunnel in Gorinchem Station will restart soon. This happens because the Dutch railway infrastructure company ProRail and the contractor Ballast Nedam have resolved their differences.
The construction had started in 2018 but stopped in 2019 when Ballast Nedam discovered two underground wells and decided that ground would be too unstable for the pile driver. Then came the quarrel about who should pay for the extra costs. At the end, the arbitration has decided that Ballast Nedam must pay for the extra costs. Therefore the construction restarts. Bay any means it is a tiny project for Ballast Nedam with a contract value of only 4.5 million euros.
