India's National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) awarded the Jammu and Kashmir's Z-Morh Tunnel project to APCO Amarnathji Tunnelway.
The Z-Morh Tunnel along with the Zojila tunnel are designed to provide all-weather road connectivity to Jammu and Kashmir parts which remain closed during the winters due to heavy snowfall.
In the original tender, both tunnels were awarded to contractor Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS), But IL&FS was not a financially sound company and abandoned the project.
It is hoped that the new contractor APCO Amarnathji Tunnelway will finish the Z-Morh tunnel by 2023.
